An original background concept from the 1969 Hanna Barbera Studios series Scooby Doo Where Are You? (1969). Featuring a moonlit roadway, the hand-painted concept was created at the studio and used during the development process. The scene created from the background is the very first scene shown in the first episode of Scooby Doo Where Are You?, titled What A Night for a Knight. When Scooby Doo was first introduced to audiences, the first image that was ever seen was a scene developed from this concept painting, making this an incredcibly important part of animation history. The painting was created by renowned artist and animation painter Paul Julian. Julian worked on such Hanna Barbera creations as Jonny Quest, A Man Called Flintstone, Space Ghost, and Valley of the Dinosaurs, but we are not sure which project this piece was used to develop. Measuring 6"x8.25" overall, the concept art is in very good condition with minor handling and edge wear from studio use. The piece has been framed (not pictured).
